Learning to Fly
Well, our visitors have taken flight. The nest is now empty.
It didn't take long before the baby birds were up, poking their head around and stretching their wings. I watched for a couple of days as Momma Bird gave her baby birds 'pep-talks' as if telling them pointers on how to fly. She would fly back and forth from the nest to the roof of the house while they would practice using their wings.

Building a Nest
A few weeks ago I started to notice that one of my hanging plants wasn't doing so well. I first blamed it on the Texas heat and my missing a few days of watering...however, I soon discovered we had ourselves a little visitor.

She started building a nest and making herself a little home! (In the shade, mind you! Smart little birdy!) I had so much fun watching her! On a daily basis I'd head out back with my camera to see what she was up to.
Some days she wanted nothing to do with me...
Others she was a little more willing to show her face!
Finally one day I decided to take out the ladder and see what was going on in that little nest of hers.
I was excited to find two small surprises!

Needless to say, I got a little 'camera-happy'!
She, on the other hand, was not too pleased about this!
After hiding behind the hibiscus plant, and trying to coax her with a little bit of sweet talking... ("please just give me one cool shot for my blog! I'll be forever grateful!")...I was just about ready to give up...
and then I got this shot! Thank you mama-bird and baby-bird!

Stay tuned for a few more shots of our winged visitors! Last Friday the baby birds started flapping their wings getting ready to fly!

Magic Gardens
Back in April we took a trip to North Carolina for a long weekend visit. It was wonderful and so much fun to see a different part of the country!
One of my favorite stops was the Sarah P. Duke Gardens on Duke University's campus. The Gardens are known as the "crown jewel" of the University and I couldn't agree more!
I loved walking through the rows and rows of different flowers. I think we picked a pretty good time of year to visit too because everything was in bloom!
It was absolutely breathtaking!
